“Too many veterans don’t receive the support that they’ve earned.”
-President Barack Obama, White House, March 19th, 2009
They are our heroes but where is their heroes’ welcome? They return to unrecognizable families, unrecognizable themselves. The normal they encounter is not the normal they left. They bear the scars of war; some visible, some not. They are forgotten, cast aside. They are today’s invisible men and women, often without easily translatable skills and
the resources to rebuild and revitalize their lives. Where are the grassroots, nationwide programs, built community-by-community, that can bring us all together to provide them on a national scale with the support they earned? Attention must be paid, awareness created, training and education made accessible, knowledge imparted.
